At the age of ten, he was living in England yet he has made his acting debut at the age of five on the comedy pound (1970). His parents divorced on 1978 and he followed his father to California, went to the Santa Monica high school but dropped out in 1982 and returned to New York City to pursue an acting career.

After five years of substance abuse, getting arrested going through rehabilitation and falling into relapse, Downey Jr decided to get form, face recover and return to his career. On the 23rd of November 2004 he released his debut musical album the futurist. He was previously in movies like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Goshika, A scanner darkly, and The shaggy Dog, amongst others. He also appeared on Zodial, A mystery thriller based on a true story.
